Video Helps Grade Schoolers Learn about Pedestrian Safety

With bouncy music and two engaging hosts, an OCTA-sponsored video instructs K-2 and 3-6 graders in safe walking behaviors while encouraging activities compatible with school PE curriculums.

The video was completed through the STEP Campaign with an Active Transportation Program Grant in partnership with Alta Planning+Design, Walk n’ Rollers, and Latino Health Access.  STEP (Safe Transportation Education Program) provides select schools with free resources to encourage families to walk, roll or bike to school safely and more often. During the pandemic, STEP is providing distancing learning modules focusing on safe walking, rolling and biking practices for everyday life, that also satisfy specific California Department of Education (CDE) Health Education and Physical Education Standards.

Originally completed for schools that serve disadvantaged communities, the video is available to all and demonstrates how activity, fun and learning can go together by just following the steps.
