Less time waiting at red lights, smoother trips and reduced fuel costs are among the benefits Orange County drivers are experiencing through OCTA’s Regional Traffic Signal Synchronization Program.
Another 30 projects are underway, which will synchronize1,385 intersections. OCTA is also advancing a countywide effort to update signal timing at approximately 2,500 intersections, beginning later this year.
Since 2008, OCTA has partnered with local cities, the County of Orange and Caltrans to complete 115 projects covering more than 4,000 intersections. These improvements have reduced average travel times by 12%, cut the number of stops by 29% and increased average speeds by 14%.
Funded in part by Measure M, Orange County’s voter-approved half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements, the program demonstrates how regional cooperation can make everyday travel more efficient and sustainable.
