Teen Council Kicks Off Its Biggest Year Yet

On October 17, OCTA’s Teen Council kicked off its first meeting with a welcome from CEO Darrell Johnson and an overview of the agency.

Twenty-two students from 16 high schools across Orange County were selected to join the council, making it the largest group to date. Students on the council serve a one-year term and meet monthly during the 2019-20 school year.

Now entering its sixth year, the program is an important part of OCTA. Members build leadership, teamwork, critical thinking and communication skills while working with OCTA staff to develop and implement projects. This past year, for example, Teen Council members provided insight on the development of marketing campaigns including OCTA’s Youth Summer Pass, OC Flex and Taco Transit Tuesday. Teen Council members also attend professional workshops hosted by OCTA staff and are provided with meaningful networking opportunities.

Members represent a key audience for OC Bus and transportation in Orange County. The teens advocate for transit while learning about various transportation topics.
