Take a Walk on the Wild Side

On Oct. 17, take the opportunity to get out of the city and explore a part of Orange County that few ever see with a free guided tour of the Ferber Ranch area of Trabuco Canyon.

Nearly 400 acres of open space, this wilderness preserve is home to mule deer, mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, and grey foxes. The native habitat, full of coastal sage scrub, oak woodland, and chaparral, offers a protected environment for the coastal California gnatcatcher and cactus wren.

This area is one of seven properties acquired by OCTA as part of the Measure M Freeway Environmental Mitigation Program, a comprehensive plan that preserves and restores natural habitats and allows for expedited delivery of freeway projects. The properties are located in Trabuco Canyon, Brea, Silverado Canyon, and Laguna Beach. Together, they total more than 1,300 acres.

As you walk through the preserve, you’ll discover how OCTA’s environmental stewardship protects several vital wildlife movement corridors, ensures the preservation of high-quality habitat, and allows this core segment of Trabuco Canyon to be permanently protected. Come see for yourself how nature is thriving in Orange County. Hikers and riders must be over age 12 and sign a liability waiver. Space is limited. Register online or contact OCTA Public Outreach Marissa Espino at 714-560-5607 to join us.
