The Costa Mesa (SR-55) Freeway will be closed in both directions between Edinger Avenue and Dyer Road later this month as part of the SR-55 Improvement Project.
Southern California Edison crews will be replacing power lines across the freeway and removing existing utility poles. The nighttime closures are scheduled for 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday, April 26, and Saturday, April 27. Westbound Warner Avenue over SR-55 is also scheduled to be closed during these times. Detour signs will be posted, and motorists are encouraged to plan for travel delays through the area.
If the work is not completed, crews will return Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4, to finish activities. Find the latest closure and detour information here.
The $475.1 million improvement project adds one regular lane and one carpool lane in each direction of SR-55 between I-5 and I-405 and is expected to ease traffic for more than 260,000 vehicles that travel this section of freeway every day. Construction began in August 2022 and is nearly 30 percent complete. The project is expected to wrap up in 2026. Visit the project webpage or sign up for construction alerts to stay informed.
