OCTA Recognizes and Recruits Teen Council Members

Now entering its fifth year, the OCTA Teen Council offers high school students an opportunity to learn about transportation-related topics while providing OCTA staff with valuable feedback on a wide range of projects. Members also build leadership, communication and teamwork skills by attending professional workshops hosted by staff.

The Teen Council is an important part of OCTA and members consistently bring fresh ideas to the table. During the past year, for example, Teen Council members provided insights on the development of marketing campaigns including OCTA’ s Youth Summer Pass and Dump the Pump. They also offered an important perspective on planning studies such as the Long Range Transportation Plan and OC Active that will directly affect the future of transportation in Orange County.

During the meeting of the Board of Directors on June 25, OCTA CEO Darrell Johnson presented Resolutions of Appreciation to Teen Council members in recognition of their valuable contributions.

Teen Council membership provides meaningful networking opportunities and adds distinction to college applications and resumes. Also, time spent on the council may count towards community service hours.

New members are needed for the 2018-19 term, and the application deadline is July 21, 2018. Applicants must be 13 to 18 years old as of Sept. 1, 2018, reside in Orange County, and be entering grades 9 to 12 at an Orange County public, private or home school.
