OCTA Leaders Share Progress at Mobility 21

The 18th annual Mobility 21 Southern California Transportation Summit attracted more than 1,300 local, state and federal elected officials, public agency leadership and private sector leadership throughout California to the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim on September 27. Experts from a broad spectrum of backgrounds come together every year for the nonprofit organizations’ ‘beyond the limits’-themed conference and expo, the state’s largest one-day transportation event.

CEO Darrell Johnson, a Mobility 21 Board Member, moderated a panel of political leaders from regional transportation agencies, including OCTA Chairman and City of La Habra Councilmember Tim Shaw. Billed as the “Chairmans’ Roundtable: Mobility Beyond the Limits,” the panel discussed transportation challenges and solutions given physical and environmental constraints.

He was also a panelist on “Rising Above the Fray: 2020 State and Federal Priorities,” a session about overcoming challenges and delivering solutions to communities while navigating the state and federal legislative landscape. In his remarks, Johnson related how OCTA secured a $629 million federal Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) loan for the I-405 Improvement Project, the largest highway project under construction in the state.

Jennifer Bergener, Chief Operating Officer, Operations, served as a panelist on “Getting to Zero,” a discussion of opportunities and barriers to success as California transitions to a zero-emission future. Kurt Brotcke, Director of Strategic Planning, contributed to the panel “Cracking the Code of Transit Ridership,” an examination of new partnerships and strategic initiatives to evolve mass transportation and make it competitive.
