A deteriorating roadway has been transformed thanks to a joint effort among OCTA, the City of Costa Mesa, and the OC Fair & Event Center.
Located in Costa Mesa between Fairview Road and Newport Boulevard, Arlington Drive had fallen into disrepair. The roadway was in rough shape and the swale – a filtration basin designed to manage water runoff and filter pollutants – was not functioning properly.
Through a grant from OCTA, the City of Costa Mesa partnered with the OC Fair & Event Center to perform roadway improvements, create a new concrete multipurpose trail, build a new underground storm drain system and vegetated bioswale and add new landscaping and water-efficient irrigation systems.
In 2014, OCTA allocated $1.69 million in Measure M (also known as OC Go) water quality funds toward this project as part of its Environmental Cleanup Program to help protect Orange County beaches and waterways from urban runoff.
OCTA Director Al Murray, also Mayor of Tustin, attended a celebration of Arlington Drive on May 18 and commented, “This project meets OCTA goals in protecting our environment and helping prevent litter, debris and unwanted sediment and nutrients from entering the ocean and that’s a great cause that everyone can get behind.”
