February includes Black History Month and Lunar New Year, two cultural celebrations that are important to Orange County and the country.
Black History Month is a federally recognized celebration of the contributions African Americans have made to this country and a time to reflect on the continued struggle for racial justice. Lunar New Year is the most celebrated holiday of the year for the nearly 1.5 million people of Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese descent living in Southern California.
Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, OCTA provided transportation to many gatherings that celebrated these events, including the annual Black History Month Parade and two Tet festivals.
Though these public events were cancelled for this year, OCTA continued the spirit of celebration with social media posts and an internal multimedia presentation. Contributors to these highlights included the Orange County Heritage Council, organizers of the county’s Black History Month, the Orange County Black Chamber, the Orange County Asian Pacific Islander Community Alliance, the Vietnamese American Chamber of Commerce and other leading cultural organizations.
