Funds from the SB 1 State of Good Repair Program will be used for several improvements to the OCTA transit system, including:
- Transit Security and Operations Center
- Heating-ventilation unit replacement at the Santa Ana Bus Base
- Bus engine repower/rebuild contract
The State of Good Repair Program (SGR) is a transit capital program funded by the SB 1 Transportation Improvement Fee funded through vehicle registrations. The specific goal of the program is to rehabilitate and upgrade existing local transit systems, equipment, and facilities.
OCTA expects to receive $6.5 million in State of Good Repair funding for FY 2022-23. This will partially fund the Transit Security and Operations Center construction, which includes replacing OCTA’s control-center facility, known as the Garden Grove Annex, and a heating-ventilation unit replacement at the Santa Ana Bus Base.
In addition, $2.56 million of FY 2019-20 SGR funding will be reprogrammed to the bus engine repower/rebuild contract.
Overall, it is estimated that the Transportation Improvement Fee will provide $121 million to transit agencies statewide for FY 2022-23. After the projects are approved, funds will be released to transit agencies on a quarterly basis, beginning in November.
