Since 2015, OCTA’s Be the One campaign has helped increase awareness about human trafficking in Orange County and continues to do so today. Because human traffickers and their victims often take public transportation, OCTA trained hundreds of coach operators to identify and help victims and uses its buses as traveling billboards to encourage everyone in OC to “be the one” to help out and make a difference.
OCTA and the Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force (OCHTTF) have joined to help victims and send the message that human trafficking is unacceptable in Orange County. OCTA staff discussed the program’s successful history and plans for 2018 at the OCHTTF’s January meeting.
Following the presentation, an OC Bus displaying Be the One advertising served as the photo backdrop for task force members and supporters holding signs pledging support to combat human trafficking. The pictures will be used on social media to empower others to help out.
OCHTTF is a collaboration of law enforcement, victim service providers, non-profit organizations, faith-based organizations, government entities and the community working toward the common goal of combating human trafficking and related crimes in Orange County. Members include the Anaheim Police Department, the California Highway Patrol, the Irvine Police Department, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, The Salvation Army, the Santa Ana Police Department, the Costa Mesa Police Department, and the Newport Beach Police Force.
