OC Vanpool Increases Subsidy to Encourage Ridesharing

The OC Vanpool Program offers commuters an alternative to driving alone, contributing to the reduction of traffic congestion on Orange County roads. The OC Vanpool Program continues to show promising long-term growth as many commuters are returning to their workplaces and embracing hybrid work schedules, creating new opportunities for vanpool participation after the pandemic.

Since its inception, the OC Vanpool Program has reduced the cost of the vanpool service for commuters by providing a $400 subsidy each month to qualified groups. Vanpools typically have commute trips exceeding 70 round-trip miles each day, making this program a very practical and attractive solution for many commuters.

To help keep vanpool as an attractive option for commuters that lack transit options or other mobility alternatives and to keep up with rising costs, OC Vanpool has made the following adjustments:

  • Increased the OC Vanpool monthly subsidy from $400 to $600 per month for qualifying groups, while maintaining an additional $100 for high occupancy vehicles (vehicles seating 8 or more with 85 percent occupancy or greater)
  • Provided an additional $100 to vanpool groups operating a zero emissions vehicle, as defined by the California Air Resources Board.

In addition to providing subsidies, OC Vanpool also helps Orange County businesses and individuals understand the benefits of vanpooling and provides assistance for establishing vanpool programs. Learn more here.
