OC Streetcar and Sustainability Top CEO’s Meeting Agenda

During recent meetings with federal and regional groups, OCTA CEO Darrell Johnson discussed OC Streetcar and state regulations regarding climate change and greenhouse gas emissions.

Johnson participated in OCTA’s quarterly meeting with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to discuss the OC Streetcar Project. The meeting provided an opportunity to update FTA Region IX Regional Administrator Ray Tellis, FTA staff and FTA’s Project Management Oversight Consultant on the status of construction and vehicle manufacturing as well as on the overall project cost, schedule, and risk management process. FTA’s independent risk analysis of the project is underway.

The California State Transportation Agency’s Climate Action Plan for Transportation Infrastructure (CAPTI) was discussed at the meeting of the Mobility 21 Board of Directors.

During the County Transportation Commission CEOs’/SCAG Meeting, several items were discussed that may impact greenhouse gas emissions. State Bill 261, which will augment State Bill 375, would require that the sustainable communities strategy be developed to additionally achieve greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets for 2045 and 2050. Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) staff expressed concern with setting targets for 2045 and 2050 and would prefer the bill remains focused on 2035.
