OCTA would like your help in renaming our open space preserves to highlight the regional and environmental significance of each one.
OCTA has successfully purchased seven properties that are permanently preserved as natural open space and total more than 1,300 acres of land. Five preserves are in the Trabuco and Silverado Canyon area, one in Laguna Beach and one in Brea. OCTA allocates funds to acquire land and fund habitat restoration projects in exchange for streamlined project approvals for the 13 OC Go freeway improvement projects. OC Go (formerly Measure M) is Orange County’s half-cent sales tax to improve transportation efforts throughout the County.
Currently, the preserves are called by names that reference their location, such as Aliso Canyon, or family heritage, such as O’Neill Oaks.
