Help Plan the Future of Southern California

A draft plan released by the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) that embodies a collective vision for the future is now available for review and discussion.

Called the Regional Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy (RTP/SCS), this long-range plan balances future mobility and housing needs with economic, environmental and public health goals. It was developed with input from local governments, county transportation commissions, tribal governments, non-profit organizations, businesses and local stakeholders within the counties of Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura.

The report addresses topics important to all residents, including jobs, air quality, housing, green space, active transportation, public health, goods movement, poverty, traffic and mobility. At its heart are more than 2,000 transportation projects ranging from freeway improvements to railroad grade separations, bicycle lanes, new transit hubs and replacement bridges. These future investments were included in county long-range transportation plans developed by the six county transportation commissions, including OCTA, and seek to reduce traffic bottlenecks, improve the efficiency of the region’s network and expand mobility choices for everyone.

This short video neatly summarizes the plan and shows why the information is important to all Southern California residents.

There are several ways to share your thoughts and opinions with SCAG.

The draft report and background are available here. Comments are welcome through Feb. 1, 2016 and an online comment form is provided.
