Throughout 2019, the OCTA Board of Directors matched mobility with demand to keep Orange County on the move.
In February, bus riders on Beach Boulevard between Fullerton and Huntington Beach began saving time with the new rapid service Bravo! 529.
To serve the Orange Metrolink and Amtrak train station, OCTA opened a five-level parking structure that honors the history and character of Old Towne Orange while providing users with modern amenities.
To ease South County congestion, OCTA broke ground in June on a $581 million dollar project to add regular and carpool lanes on I-5 between El Toro Road and SR-73.
The Board also funded five signal synchronization projects throughout the county to help traffic flow more smoothly. To date, the program has eased travel at more than 2,000 intersections along 705 miles of streets.
In August, OCTA reached a major milestone when the first of 18 to-be-reconstructed bridges opened to the public as part of the $1.9 billion dollar I-405 Improvement Project.
The college pass program expanded to Fullerton and Golden West colleges, allowing tens of thousands of additional students to ride OC Bus for free.
OC Flex, Orange County’s first on-demand, app-based microtransit service, recorded nearly 40,000 in two zones during the first year of the pilot program.
Construction on the OC Streetcar Project advanced, laying the groundwork for a new transportation alternative to and from Orange County’s urban core.
As part of our environmental stewardship, OCTA constructed one of the country’s largest hydrogen fueling stations and has purchased 10 zero-emission hydrogen fuel-cell electric buses.
To end a successful year, OCTA was honored with the Employer of the Year Award from Women’s Transportation Seminar-Orange County (WTS-OC). More than 31 percent of OCTA managers are female and nearly 39 percent of the executive team is comprised of women.
These are just a few highlights of OCTA’s work to enhance Orange County through a balanced and sustainable transportation system.
