WCC Team Shares Update with Stakeholders as Project Enters Final Year of Construction

At its quarterly stakeholder working group meeting in Rossmoor on Thursday, Oct. 17, the West County Connectors (WCC) project team provided an update on the project as crews enter the final year of construction.

OCTA Project Manager Dennis Mak and Community Relations Representative Sarah King shared information with approximately 20 participants that included community and business leaders, emergency services personnel, and representatives from local and county government agencies.

King and Mak provided a recap of the major project milestones that crews have reached since the start of construction in 2010, along with "behind-the-k-rail" construction photos that showed the project’s progress.

They also shared a look ahead at the highly anticipated new connectors that will link carpool lanes on the San Diego (I-405) freeway to those on the San Gabriel River (I-605) and Garden Grove (SR-22) freeways. Crews anticipate opening these lanes by late 2014.

In addition to covering the ongoing work on the project, the team also shared statistics from the near-constant media coverage of “Bridge Bash,”
the 20-hour full closure of the I-405 freeway that crews successfully completed hours ahead of schedule.
