WCC Project Progress Includes Reopening of Busy Seal Beach Blvd. On-ramp

Contractors are making significant progress on the West County Connectors (WCC) Project, a partnership between OCTA and Caltrans. The WCC Project links high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes/carpool lanes on the San Diego Freeway (I-405) with those on the Garden Grove Freeway (SR-22) and the San Gabriel River Freeway (I-605) to create a seamless carpool connection among the three freeways.

Earlier this month, the roadway surfacing was completed for the I-405 / I-605 carpool connector. Following that major accomplishment, the contractor will spend the next few weeks installing barrier rail on top of retaining walls and on the carpool connector in the center median of the I-405 freeway. Crews will begin removing temporary support structures from the bridge next month.

The northbound I-405 on-ramp at Seal Beach Boulevard reopened at 5 a.m. Tuesday, September 30. Caltrans and the project contractor worked diligently to get the ramp open in late-September. The project team would like to thank the traveling public for their patience while the ramp was closed for reconstruction. Drive safely and enjoy the new on-ramp!
