Earlier this week, the country celebrated national Walk to School Day, a time to promote physical activity and promote safety in neighborhoods near schools.
In Orange County, every day is Walk to School Day. Here are some reasons for integrating a walk into your schedule on a daily basis.
During the pandemic, kids lost access to places and activities where they could find social connections and physical activity. More than ever, it’s a great idea for family members to reconnect and be active together by walking to school.
Whether your kids are returning to school in-person or in distance learning, start the school day with a neighborhood walk. Being outdoors is a safer way to connect with others. Not only is walking great for physical and emotional health, kids will show up alert and ready to learn.
OCTA and the Orange County Health Care Agency (OCHCA) have partnered to deliver Safe Routes to School programming to eligible schools through the OC STEP (Safe Transportation Education Program) with FREE resources to encourage families to walk, roll or bike to school safely and more often.
