Travelers Choose Metrolink for Festival of Whales Trip

On their way to the annual Festival of Whales in Dana Point, about 80 visitors dropped by OCTA’s pre-event at the Orange Metrolink Station on Saturday, March 1 despite heavy rain. In addition to providing free Metrolink tickets for the first 50 people, OCTA encouraged attendees to try the train for both work and play. Ruby’s Diner served up free food and shelter as attendees got ready to board the train for a day of whale watching. View photos of the event on Facebook.

OCTA conducts a series of outreach events in connection with local festivals and celebrations to promote Metrolink usage. Through partnerships with local merchants and the strategic use of social media, campaigns attract attendees who might not normally consider traveling by train.

From throughout southern California, Metrolink is a convenient way to reach the Festival of Whales, which continues March 8 and 9. The journey starts with a train ride to the San Juan Capistrano station and continues with OCTA Bus Route 91 South to Dana Point.  Cyclists can bring their bikes on the train and take the San Juan Creek bike trail for three miles to Dana Point and the festival.

OCTA partners will provide exclusive discounts on whale watching, a scenic water taxi, premium coffee, appetizers, and hotel stays during the festival. To take advantage of these special values, visitors must show a Metrolink ticket, OCTA bus pass, or 91 Express Lanes transponder.

When visiting the Festival of Whales or any weekend event, the Metrolink Weekend Day Pass is an outstanding value. Good Saturday or Sunday, for only $10 it provides a whole day of travel wherever Metrolink goes.
