The largest project in OCTA’s history, the I-405 Improvement Project will improve 16 miles of I-405 and add one regular lane in each direction from Euclid Street to I-605. It will also construct the 405 Express Lanes from SR-73 to I-605.
Business Outreach Continues in Irvine
As part of its continuing effort to raise awareness about the I-405 Improvement Project among Orange County businesses, OCTA representatives met recently with members of the Greater Irvine Chamber of Commerce. One of the largest chambers in the county, the Greater Irvine Chamber includes nearly 800 business members representing more than 70,000 employees, according to the organization’s 2016 Community Report.
Jeff Mills, I-405 Improvement Program Manager, and Christina Byrne, Acting Department Manager – Public Outreach, presented an overview of the project to approximately 40 attendees on September 26.
Prior to the start of construction in early 2018, OCTA plans to visit each of the 1,400 businesses located within a half-mile radius of the freeway. So far, the outreach team has completed more than 900 visits within the 16-mile project area.
Though they range in size from big employers like Kaiser Permanente and the Automobile Club of Southern California to smaller operations like Crafted Doughnuts, OCTA’s approach is always the same – meet, greet, educate, and form partnerships.
By establishing strong communications, OCTA makes sure that employees and customers stay up to date and know who to contact with questions during the expected six-year construction span of the I-405 Improvement Project. In addition to offering presentations to small and large groups, OCTA provides a wide variety of educational materials, including content for newsletter and websites, social media posts, flyers, posters, paycheck stuffers and envelope inserts, and press releases.
