For the past 26 years, the San Clemente Chamber of Commerce has sponsored Seafest as a way to bring locals, businesses and visitors together for a full day of eating and surfing. The popular event, held this year on Sunday, Oct. 6, draws visitors from all over southern California. For many, Metrolink is the best way to get there.
The Metrolink station is literally on the beach in this surfside town. It adjoins the historic quarter-mile pier, right next to Seafest central, where competitors vie to win the coveted award for the best chowder and artists display handcrafted wares.
In contrast, the parking lot – which requires payment and fills up fast – is downhill on arrival and uphill on departure, a troublesome combination for sunbaked travelers and sand-covered children. Metrolink, easy to get on and off and with no parking requirements, is the clear choice. For only $10, riders can travel to and from the San Clemente Seafest using the $10 Metrolink Weekend Day Pass.
Other Seafest events include the 16th annual surfing contest, children’s competitions and arts and crafts, and a demonstration rescue by the U.S. Coast Guard Search and Rescue. The best place to view the surfing contest and rescue demonstration is from the pier, just a short walk to and from the Metrolink Station.
