Streetcar Milestone Event to be Held in May

To celebrate important milestones for the OC Streetcar, OCTA will hold an event on May 11 at the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center (SARTC). In addition to providing a project update, OCTA will recognize OCTA Board members, local elected officials and stakeholders who continue to champion the streetcar as it moves forward into the design phase.

Scheduled to begin carrying passengers in late 2019, OC Streetcar will help broaden the reach of Metrolink and is funded in part by Measure M, Orange County’s sales tax for transportation improvements. OC Streetcar will increase transportation options and provide greater access along its 4.15-mile route (in each direction) along Santa Ana Boulevard, 4th Street, and the Pacific Electric right-of-way to Harbor Boulevard in Garden Grove.

Beginning in 2008, the City of Santa Ana, in partnership with the City of Garden Grove, served as the lead agency for streetcar planning efforts. Expanding on the vision of connectivity and community accessibility, OCTA is now the lead agency for project development, engineering, construction, operations, and maintenance.
