Safe Biking and Walking Opportunities Move Forward in Orange County

OCTA continues to improve safety and support walking and biking throughout Orange County.

OCTA began working on its E-bike Safety Action Plan in summer 2023 due to the growing use of e-bikes throughout the county. The plan includes strategies for improving infrastructure, education and legislation to promote the safe use of e-bikes. The final plan is expected to be available by the end of 2024. Learn more about e-bike safety here.

In addition, OCTA has been working with the Orange County Health Care Agency on a Safe Routes to School Program to encourage safe walking and biking to school. These efforts include the Next STEP program, which partners with cities and local police departments to promote walking and bicycling education and evaluating infrastructure needs at 25 eligible public elementary schools across Orange County.

OCTA is also continuing work on the OC Connect project that would create a 4-mile shared-use path in Garden Grove and Santa Ana.
