OCTA is encouraging Orange County commuters to transform themselves into rideshare superheroes. All it takes is a pledge to leave the car home and ride the bus or train, carpool, vanpool, walk or cycle during Rideshare Week from Oct. 6 to 10.
This year, participants have several ways to clobber pollution and banish high gas prices. They can pledge online and be entered to win great prizes, including an iPad mini. By referring three or more friends, they can also have a chance to win a $50 gift card. And those new to ridesharing are eligible to receive $2 a day for up to three months.
On Aug. 28, OCTA shared the campaign at a half-day seminar with employee transportation coordinators (ETCs) from Orange County employers.
Participants received information and materials to promote Rideshare Week to employees at their worksites. In addition, the ETCs learned digital marketing and promotional techniques to increase rideshare participation among their employees. View a photo album on Facebook.
OCTA offers the annual event for Orange County employers who choose an Employee Commute Rideshare Program (ECRP) to comply with requirements to reduce mobile source emissions generated from employee commutes. Coordinators are required to attend a two-hour marketing class and present a marketing certificate along with the rideshare plan they submit to the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), the agency that oversees the program.
