Rideshare Week Kicks-Off With an Employer Meeting

Last Thursday, Aug. 29, OCTA's rideshare team brought nearly 60 Employer Transportation Coordinators (ETCs) together from across Orange County to launch the 2013 Rideshare Week campaign.

Rideshare Week (October 7 - 11, 2013) is an annual effort to encourage commuters to try alternate modes of transportation, including buses, trains, carpools, vanpools, bikes and more.

The meeting featured a sponsored breakfast, presentations about the various rideshare options, networking sessions and a sneak peak of OCTA's new bike sharing program. Most importantly, this year's Rideshare Week campaign was revealed, and ETCs received materials that will assist them in spreading the word at their worksites.

This year’s theme — 101 Reasons to Rideshare — is a fresh take on transportation. The goal is to remind commuters of the benefits associated with alternative transportation, including cost and time savings, networking possibilities and the ability to relax instead of dealing with traffic.

OCTA's Rideshare Week campaign features prize opportunities for those who pledge online to share the ride between October 7 and October 11. Sponsored prizes include $100 gift certificate to Morton’s, $125 gift code to Hurley and more. Participants will also be able to earn extra entries for connecting with OCTA online, a new feature this year. Additionally, the public will be able to engage with OCTA at a series of outreach events, starting with the Adventure Run in Costa Mesa on September 19th.

Lastly, as a special incentive to encourage ETCs to promote Rideshare Week, the worksite with the most participation will win a catered lunch, courtesy of Rideshare Week sponsors, exclusively for employees of that worksite who participate in the rideshare program.
