Replacement Planting Continues on West County Connectors Project

Replacement planting is being installed in areas affected by the West County Connectors project, which was completed in 2015 and created carpool connectors among the San Diego (I-405) Freeway, the Garden Grove (SR-22) Freeway and the San Gabriel River (I-605) Freeway.

Crews have completed nearly all of the irrigation work for the West County Connectors Project replacement planting effort and have finished planting at the Valley View Street and Seal Beach Boulevard areas.

In addition to hundreds of shrubs and trees such as California pepper, eucalyptus and Canary Island pines, the project includes placing more than 500,000 ground cover plants and 11,000 cubic yards of mulch – enough to fill three Olympic-size swimming pools.

The remaining planting work for the $3.4 million project is expected to be completed by early 2018, though the schedule is subject to change in the event of inclement weather or unforeseen operational issues. For more information, visit here
