It’s easy to see why the Huntington Beach Trail is so popular.
Bordering the sand through Surf City from Newport Beach to Sunset Beach, the trail offers one of the most leisurely bike rides in Orange County with miles of ocean views and easy access to lots places to shop, eat and enjoy the world-class beach scene.
On any given day, thousands of bicyclists make their way along the meandering path. Due to its popularity, the speed on the path is relatively slow; faster cyclists can choose the class 2 bikeway on Pacific Coast Highway.
The Huntington Beach Bike Trail makes up a significant piece of the OC Loop and connects to the Newport Peninsula, Newport Harbor, California State Beaches, the wetlands, Huntington Beach Pier and downtown area. There is also easy access to the Santa Ana River Trail where the cities of Huntington Beach and Newport Beach meet.
The trail is not physically challenging, as the majority is flat. There are only a few mild inclines, which makes the only difficult part of the journey deciding where to stop to enjoy the fantastic views. One of the most popular rides along the trail is the “pier to pier” route – the roundtrip between the Balboa Pier in Newport Beach and the Huntington Beach Pier. There is also the chance to have a unique multi-modal journey by combining your bike trip with a ride to Balboa Island on the Balboa Island Ferry.
