Caltrans, in partnership with OCTA, has proposed improvements to Interstate 5 (I-5) between State Route 55 (SR-55) and State Route 57 (SR-57) in Santa Ana, Orange and Tustin. To relieve traffic congestion, eliminate bottlenecks and improve traffic, the project would add a second HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lane in each direction and remove the I-5 / Main Street HOV on- and off-ramps.
A Caltrans study indicates that the project will not significantly affect environmental quality. Detailed information is available in the Draft Environmental Document for public review and comment.
Residents and interested parties can learn about and comment on these environmental findings in several ways.
There will be a public hearing on Sept. 2 from 5 to 7 p.m.in the Rancho Santiago Community College boardroom at 2323 N. Broadway in Santa Ana. For more information about this event, please call Nicolette La Piana (714) 560-5787 or email at nlapiana@octa.net.
In addition, the environmental document is available online and can also be viewed at several local libraries within the project area. For a complete list of libraries, and for additional project information, please visit www.octa.net/I5Central.
Please provide comments to Caltrans no later than September 12, 2014.
