To help take cars off the road and reduce traffic and harmful emissions, OCTA provides employers with tools to help their employees commute to work. Transportation options are available for the unique needs of businesses of all sizes; OCTA will develop customized plans as well.
During April, OCTA is encouraging companies to start vanpools by offering significant incentives and discounts on vanpool leases. April is Earth Month, an ideal time to focus on the environmental benefits of vanpools. One vanpool can dramatically decrease a company's carbon footprint by taking several cars off the road.
Vanpools offer other benefits as well. They can help employers reduce congestion in overcrowded parking lots, comply with South Coast Air Quality Management Department (SCAQMD) regulations, and improve employee engagement and retention. Employees who share a vanpool save on gas, car maintenance and stress while reducing commute time by traveling in carpool lanes.
OCTA has a different option for employers whose people use the bus to get to work. The Perk Pass is a discounted bus pass offered only through employers. With this annual pass, employees can take unlimited OCTA fixed-route bus trips for only $1.25 per trip. The cost is only $69 per month per employee, regardless of how many trips are taken. Like all OCTA employer programs, the Perk Pass if flexible. Employers can choose to subsidize costs or have employees pay for all or part of them. Companies need only 10 bus riders to participate.
For a limited time, companies can receive five free Perk Passes when they contact OCTA to discuss the program. Many employers find that Perk Passes are a great way to attract and retain employees.
OCTA provides help to set up, promote, and administer both the vanpool and Perk Pass programs.
