On any given day, members of the Capital Projects Outreach Team will be somewhere in Orange County helping residents and stakeholders understand OCTA’s current and future plans for freeways and streets. They tackle everything from concerns about sound walls and detours to complex issues involving rail bridges and freeway expansion while providing informative presentations in person and online.
Over a recent weekend, team members spent Saturday and Sunday at local community events talking to residents about progress on two important projects.
At the second annual Sugar Beet Festival in Seal Beach, nearly 100 people stopped by the OCTA booth to discuss progress on the West County Connectors (WCC) Project, a joint partnership between OCTA and Caltrans linking high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes/carpool lanes on the San Diego Freeway (I-405) with those on the Garden Grove Freeway (SR-22) and San Gabriel River Freeway (I-605) to create a seamless carpool connection among the three freeways. While the project is scheduled for completion at the end of November 2014, crews are preparing for a six-week closure of the northbound I-405 on-ramp at Seal Beach Blvd. in August.

The next day, team members traveled to the San Clemente Car Show to provide information about the I-5 South Improvement Project. This 5.7-mile project extends from Avenida Pico in San Clemente to San Juan Creek Road in San Juan Capistrano and will include carpool lanes and other modifications to improve safety and accessibility. Nearly 50 residents visited the OCTA booth to learn about this and other projects. Learn more about I-5 construction in south county.
