OCTA has launched a month-long promotion to generate new vanpools. All new vanpools started in October 2013 will receive a $150 gas card and a $150 discount on the first month's lease bill.
A vanpool is a group of people who share the cost of commuting by riding together in a vehicle leased through one of OCTA’s vanpool vendors. Vehicle sizes range from seven- to 15-seat vans. The group divides the cost of gas, tolls, car washes, parking and the van lease, which includes maintenance and insurance. Sharing the ride is especially beneficial for individuals with longer commutes.
The OCTA vanpool program offers a $400 monthly subsidy for each qualified vanpool, enhancing the cost savings for riders even more. There are currently more than 450 vans in the program, and the goal of the current promotion is to grow the fleet by 10 vanpools during October.
Commuters who are interested in joining a vanpool can register online and add their information to OCTA’s database. They can then search for open vanpools, contact vanpool coordinators or contact their fellow employees to start a vanpool.
