OCTA executives represented the agency at two recent gatherings of regional leaders. Topics included the 2028 Olympics and policy issues.
On March 4, OCTA CEO Darrell Johnson participated in Mobility 21’s annual Sacramento advocacy trip along with executives from the other Southern California transportation agencies and business community representatives. During this year’s trip, the delegation met virtually with key members of the Legislature and the Administration to discuss consensus-based priority policy issues including efforts to protect the intent of State Bill (SB) 1 in distributing transportation funding, allowing regional flexibility in implanting state environmental goals, and seeking regulatory relief for transit agencies to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mobility 21 is a coalition that brings together public, business and community stakeholders to pursue regional solutions to the transportation challenges facing Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura counties.
On March 5, OCTA Chair Andrew Do and Johnson participated in a Summit of the Southern California Transportation Agency Board Chairs hosted by Los Angeles Mayor and LA Metro Chair Eric Garcetti. The group discussed the 2028 Summer Olympics and the Olympic Committee’s approach to the transportation elements of the games including how Metrolink can serve as the transportation backbone by connecting the various event venues. The group also discussed how to coordinate efforts to secure federal investments to support the games. A joint statement was issued vowing that this group will continue its efforts to promote effective transportation solutions for the games. The 2028 Olympics is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles.
