O.C. Register (August 9)

ORANGE – Five people were injured Friday morning when a bus collided with a car on Chapman Avenue near the 57 freeway.

Four people in the small bus, which serves people with disabilities, were injured along with the passenger of the BMW sedan, said Battalion Chief Robert Stefano of the Orange Fire Department. Two people were taken to a hospital for moderate injuries, he said. They were listed in stable condition, and the others suffered minor injuries, he said.

The bus is contracted with the Orange County Transportation Authority's Access program, said OCTA spokeswoman Laura Scheper. The program picks up and drops off people unable to use regular bus service.

Around 8 a.m., the bus collided with the BMW sedan at West Chapman Avenue and South Anita Drive. When firefighters arrived, they cut open the BMW and used hydraulic equipment to free the trapped passenger, Stefano said.
