More than 80 riders biked 4 miles from the Orange Metrolink Station to OCTA headquarters May 28 as part of OCTA’s annual bike rally in support of active transportation opportunities throughout the county.
“It’s energizing to see so many people riding together as a community,” said OCTA CEO Darrell E. Johnson, who made the ride along with members of the OCTA Board of Directors, including past Chair Tam T. Nguyen and Mark Tettemer, also a Lake Forest City Councilman. “There are so many opportunities every day for people to get out of their cars and use pedal power for a safe and efficient commute, or just for fun, promoting good health and better air quality along the way.”
OCTA Director Carlos A. Leon, who is in his first year on the Board of Directors, also participated in the rally and helped with a raffle drawing, which included prizes sponsored by Ferla and Spectrumotion.
OCTA encourages people to ride all year, especially during National Bike Month in May.
OCTA promotes safe cycling habits for all riders, including those using e-bikes. Resources and safety tips are available here.
Orange County offers more than 1,000 miles of bikeways, from beach paths to mountain trails, making it easier than ever to ride safely and explore the region on two wheels. Over the last 15 years, OCTA has invested approximately $437 million in active transportation, including cycling. More than half (54%) of the county’s primary roadways include bike lanes.
