About 50 cyclists joined OCTA officials last week for the OCTA Bike Rally, an annual event celebrating Bike to Work Week.
Beginning at about 8 a.m., participants rallied at the Orange Metrolink Station and biked about 3 miles through Old Town Orange to OCTA headquarters on Main Street.
Once there, riders listened to comments from OCTA Director Al Murray and Deputy CEO Ken Phipps about OCTA’s regional bikeways planning, and bicycle and pedestrian safety efforts.
Despite the unseasonable heat, more cyclists participated this year than last. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the number of people who commute to work by bicycle increased about 60 percent over the past decade.
