A recent tour in Santa Ana brought together two things that were clearly meant for each other: The OC Streetcar and the Electric Railroaders’ Association.
Currently under construction, the OC Streetcar is expected to open in 2024 to benefit residents, commuters and visitors in the heart of Orange County. The Electric Railroaders’ Association (ERA), a non-profit educational organization consisting of people from all walks of life interested in the history and progress of electric railways, frequently meets for regional visits to sites of interest.
In mid-July, members of the OC Streetcar Team escorted approximately 50 association members to the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center, where the streetcar will connect with trains and buses from throughout Southern California, along the streetcar alignment in Santa Ana and then to the OC Streetcar maintenance and storage facility. Writing to thank OCTA for the tour, ERA President Robert Newhouser said, “The roughly 50 people in our group were very impressed with the beautiful right-of-way and the City of Santa Ana itself.”
