Moving Forward with Construction on I-5

An extended closure and pile driving are the latest steps toward the completion of a $230 million, 5.7-mile project to extend the I-5 carpool lanes from San Juan Capistrano to San Clemente.

Currently closed, the Camino de Estrella loop on-ramp to northbound I-5 is scheduled to reopen at 8 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10.  Crews are reconstructing the portion of the ramp where it meets the freeway. Motorists are being detoured to southbound I-5 and Avenida Vista Hermosa to access northbound I-5.

In addition, crews are performing daytime pile driving along Avenida Pico adjacent to the northbound I-5 freeway. The piles will form the foundation for the east side of the bridge over Pico. The work will take place intermittently between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. through the end of

December. Please be advised that this work may be loud and disruptive.

Dates and times may change due to inclement weather or unforeseen site conditions.

Please drive safely near the construction areas. Learn more about the project and sign up for weekly construction alerts here.
