A group of nearly 70 participants, including city staff, law enforcement, engineers and public advocates, gathered at OCTA on Jan. 26 to provide their thoughts and opinions on how pedestrian safety can be improved in Orange County.
OCTA Chairman Jeffrey Lalloway kicked off the meeting, followed by OCTA directors Al Murray and Miguel Pulido and OCTA CEO Darrell Johnson.
Pedestrian safety expert Paul Zykofsky gave a presentation (PDF) and then led a group discussion about the three E’s – education, engineering and enforcement – and how they can be implemented to provide a safer walking environment in Orange County. Participants shared their thoughts verbally and on comment cards.
OCTA is launching a public awareness campaign to remind pedestrians, cyclists and motorists that safety on the road is everyone’s responsibility. Insights gained from this informative meeting will assist OCTA in developing supportive programs and educational materials.
