Making Progress on OCTA 2022 Initiatives

During the first half of 2022, OCTA made progress on milestones identified at the beginning of the year by its Board of Directors and CEO.

Highlights include:

  • OCTA made the Youth Ride Free pass permanent, becoming the first large transit agency in the region to offer free bus rides to all youth under 18 on an ongoing basis
  • The first half of the Brookhurst Street bridge and the entire Fairview Road bridge were completed and opened to traffic as part of the I-405 Improvement Project, which is improving a 16-mile stretch of the freeway between Costa Mesa and the Orange County border with Los Angeles County
  • $26.4 million of OC Go funding was awarded to cities throughout Orange County for projects that will help ease traffic by making improvements to streets and the timing of traffic lights
  • OCTA approved a $1.65 billion balanced budget for fiscal year 2022-23, making significant investments in public transit and improvements to Orange County’s freeways and streets to keep the county moving safely and efficiently
  • OCTA’s college pass program was expanded to include Coastline College, allowing enrolled students to ride OC Bus for free starting with the Spring 2022 semester.
