Lunar New Year Event Attracts Record Crowd

Nearly 350 people turned out February 17 for the Lunar New Year festivities at Irvine Metrolink Station featuring professional Lion Dancers, Chinese delicacies, calligraphy lessons and free Metrolink passes for the first 100 attendees. OCTA hosts this popular event for those who choose a car-free, stress-free trip to LA’s Golden Dragon Parade via Metrolink.

OCTA Chair Tam T. Nguyen welcomed those on the way to the parade, an annual tradition for many in the community but a challenge to reach by car. LA’s Chinatown is an easy walk from Metrolink’s Union Station.

Lunar New Year is a celebration of the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar, marked by millions of people with Asian heritage worldwide, including many throughout Southern California particularly in the Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese communities.
