Lunar New Year Celebration Began with OCTA and Metrolink

Nearly 400 OC residents began their Lunar New Year in a very special way on Feb. 13  by celebrating with OCTA at Irvine Metrolink Station and then boarding Metrolink to journey to the Golden Dragon Parade and Festival in Los Angeles.

LA’s Chinatown is easily accessible by Metrolink, and a train ride is a pleasant and low-stress way for whole families to travel together to the parade while avoiding traffic and parking expenses. To encourage ridership and build excitement, OCTA gave away 100 free Metrolink tickets to the first 100 people and also offered an online opportunity to win two round-trip tickets after completing a survey.

More OC riders than ever made the journey this year to Chinatown for the Lunar New Year Parade via Metrolink. On the Orange County and Inland Empire Orange County Lines, there were more than 5,300 boardings, a 38 percent increase compared to last year.

Many great destinations are very Metrolinkable, including Hollywood, the Mission at San Juan Capistrano, and San Clemente. Check out our ideas and start planning your next Metrolink weekend.
