Inspiring the Next Generation: OCTA Hosts WTS Transportation Academy

For more than a decade, OCTA has welcomed students from the WTS Transportation Academy, offering them an inside look at the dynamic world of transportation in Orange County. Sponsored by the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) of Orange County, the Academy gives undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to explore the many facets of the transportation industry.

This year’s program on August 6 began with a welcome from Deputy CEO Jennifer Bergener, who provided an overview of OCTA’s mission and major initiatives, including the Coastal Rail Emergency Project and the I-405 Express Lanes.

More than 20 students attended the event and engaged in a panel discussion featuring several of OCTA’s senior leaders. Executive Director of Planning, Rose Casey, Executive Director of People & Community Engagement, Maggie McJilton, Director of Operations, Kelly Hart, and Public Outreach Section Manager, Marissa Espino shared their career journeys and highlighted lessons learned along the way.

The day concluded with a walking tour of the OC Streetcar construction site in Santa Ana, providing students with a firsthand look at one of OCTA’s most innovative infrastructure projects.

OCTA supports WTS in its mission to advance the transportation industry and inspire the next generation of leaders who will shape the future of mobility in our communities.
