How Glaukos Corporation Helps Its Employees by Using OC Vanpool

Like many other businesses in Orange County, the Glaukos Corporation has employees who live far from its worksite due to the cost of housing and other factors. Located in San Clemente, Glaukos Corporation is an ophthalmic medical technology and pharmaceutical company that develops and commercializes surgical devices and pharmaceutical therapies to treat glaucoma.

Recently, the company contacted OCTA regarding OC Vanpool, a program that helps Orange County businesses establish convenient transportation alternatives for their employees. Vanpools are month-to-month "super carpools" requiring at least five riders with a similar work destination and schedule and a designated pickup location. OCTA provides complimentary, no-risk vanpool program implementation and management.

With OCTA’s help, the Glaukos Corporation now operates six vanpools that transport employees from Fountain Valley, Murrieta, Irvine, Wildomar, Huntington Beach and Santa Ana. The company covers all expenses for this benefit that helps employees get to work while increasing productivity and retention.

Thanks to Glaukos Corporation and other OC Vanpool participants, OCTA is one of the largest transit vanpool agencies in the country, according to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). OCTA ranking eighth in APTA’s 2018 Public Transportation Fact Book.

Currently OC Vanpool includes 493 vanpools from 110 different employers with 3,226 registered participants. In 2018, OCTA added 84 vanpools and 10 new employers to the program.
