Federal Legislative Update: U.S. Senate confirms Anthony Foxx as Secretary of Transportation

On Friday, the United States Senate unanimously confirmed Anthony Foxx to serve as the next Secretary of Transportation replacing the retiring Ray LaHood. Secretary Foxx is the current Mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina. While serving as mayor, Secretary Foxx was a strong advocate for public transportation and served most recently as Chairman of the Metropolitan Transit Commission.

The U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation held a hearing in May and approved the mayor's nomination where Foxx had received bipartisan support. As part of the hearing, Mayor Foxx promised lawmakers that he would work across party lines in this new position and work on continuing a multimodal approach to the nation's transportation network like his predecessor, Secretary Ray LaHood has.
