Educating Kids the Fun Way about Freeway Safety

In honor of National Safety Month, OCTA is offering a free school-age activity book as part of its campaign to engage and promote awareness among children and their parents about the I-405 Improvement Project.

The colorful pages focus on the importance of safety during construction and also include project information for parents and teachers.

Packed with fun stuff like mazes, crosswords, and word searches, the book contains plenty of useful safety information as well, including the meaning of various road signs.

The book is available in English and Vietnamese at I-405 Improvement Project outreach events and as a printable pdf. Download it here – at the top of the page.

The largest project in OCTA’s history, the project is on schedule to meet key construction milestones and open the 405 Express Lanes in late 2023. In addition to improving a 16-mile stretch of the freeway between Costa Mesa and the Orange County border with Los Angeles County, the project is adding one regular lane in each direction between Euclid Street to I-605, and a second lane in each direction in the center of the freeway from SR-73 to I-605 that will combine with the existing carpool lanes to form the 405 Express Lanes.
