Cyclists and Others Enjoy Santa Ana’s Open Streets Event

Bicyclists, pedestrians, skateboarders and others using non-motorized modes of transportation took to Santa Ana’s streets on Sunday, Nov. 8 as part of SOMOS (Sunday On Main Open Streets).  The city’s second annual open streets event allowed people to experience the vibrant downtown area without car traffic.

The 3-mile route from Warner Avenue in the south to Fifth Street in the north was lined with vendors, entertainment and activities. From rock climbing and pop-up playgrounds to soccer shoot-outs and local school bands, SOMOS invited people to enjoy their Sunday on Main Street in a fun and relaxed environment.

OCTA brought a bus to show people how easy it is to use the bike rack system. Each OCTA bus is equipped with a rack that holds two bicycles. At SOMOS, we encouraged cyclists to practice fitting their bicycles into the racks. Local groups like KidWorks, Santa Ana Active streets (SAAS) and the Bicycle Tree were on hand to offer free bicycle tune ups, safety information and organized group rides.
