The southbound I-405 to westbound SR-22 / 7th Street connector will close for daytime construction activity Tuesday, Feb. 18 through Thursday, Feb. 20 as part of the West County Connectors Project.
For approximately four to six months, crews will construct a soundwall on the slope next to the southbound I-405 to westbound SR-22 / 7th Street connector. Although most of this activity will be conducted during nighttime closures or behind k-rail, intermittent daytime closures also may be required.
The $277-million construction project is a joint partnership between OCTA and Caltrans linking high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes / carpool lanes on the San Diego Freeway (I-405) with those on the Garden Grove Freeway (SR-22) and San Gabriel River Freeway (I-605).
Upon completion of the work later this year, the project will create a seamless carpool connection among the three freeways that traverse the cities of Garden Grove, Westminster, Seal Beach, Los Alamitos, Long Beach and the community of Rossmoor.
During the 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daytime closures from Feb. 18 through Feb. 20, crews will remove vegetation and shrubbery and haul the material out of the area. Crews have posted electronic message signs along the construction site to provide closure notifications and detour information for motorists.
From the southbound I-405, OCTA and Caltrans are encouraging motorists to exit at Studebaker Road, turn right and continue south. Motorists can access the westbound SR-22 / 7th Street connector by exiting at Seal Beach Boulevard, turning right and taking the northbound I-405 on-ramp.
