Crews Close I-405, SR-22 Connector for 55 Hours Over July 26 Weekend

To open a newly reconstructed connector, construction crews will close the southbound San Diego Freeway (I-405) connector to the eastbound Garden Grove Freeway (SR-22) beginning 10 p.m. Friday, July 26 for 55 hours over the weekend.

Crews will restripe lanes and switch traffic during this weekend closure so that motorists may travel on the new connector by 5 a.m. Monday, July 29.

Construction crews reconstructed this connector as part of the West County Connectors project that will link carpool lanes on the I-405 with those on the SR-22 and the San Gabriel River Freeway (I-605) to create a seamless carpool connection among the three freeways.

OCTA developed a real-time interactive Google map and a list of recommended detours for drivers and pedestrians to navigate around the closures during construction.

Closures during this time include:

  • The southbound I-405 Connector to eastbound SR-22 freeway
  • The eastbound SR-22 Valley View Street off-ramp
  • The eastbound SR-22 Valley View Street on-ramp
  • Garden Grove Boulevard between Valley View Street and the northbound I-405 Valley View Street off-ramp

The southbound I-405 freeway will remain open during construction, as well as Valley View Street and local freeway on- and off-ramps that are not included in the list or highlighted in the map.

Crews will demolish the old structure the weekend of Aug. 17 to Aug. 18 after the new connector is open. This demolition will include a 20-hour full closure of the I-405 freeway.

Please visit the project website for more information about the closure and recommended detours.
