Rainy days are a great time to try a different way of commuting. Why not use your bicycle for the first and last portion and rely on OC Bus or Metrolink for the rest? All OC Buses have bicycle racks at the front of the vehicle that can carry two bicycles at a time. Bikes are allowed on all Metrolink train cars and each train car is designed to hold three bikes. Special bike cars hold 18 bikes on the lower level.
Wet conditions don’t have to end your daily bike ride. A little preparation and a few precautions can help you get to your destination safely.
Three Tips for Cycling in the Rain
- Take your time: Wet streets reduce traction, so slowing down and stopping will take more time. Reduce your speed by about 25 percent.
- Stay visible: Turn on your front white light and red rear light (both required by law) to increase visibility.
- Watch the road surface: Try to avoid oil slicks and puddles and steer around them when possible. Exercise caution when riding over slippery metallic surfaces like grates, road plates or manhole covers.
